Mountain Pointe Boys Basketball opened their season yesterday with a 53-44 victory over Chandler High. Jalen Graham lead the way with 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks. He used his length and athleticism to control the paint on both ends. As was the case in the pre-season the teams depth and defense helped a slow offense.
The Pride struggled early on offense, but as has been the theme under Coach Eason, the defense kept them in control. “Despite only scoring 13 points in the 1st quarter, the boys kept Chandler at 9,” Eason said. “We were inconsistent and unsure on offense and defense, but at this point, our “D” is ahead of our “O”.”
John Norseworthy Ill got them going early, scoring the first basket of the season; and netting 6 of his 11 points in quarter one. Amarion Cash scored 10, and Jonah LaBranche added 7; including 2 big free throws in the 4th quarter. “It was a total team effort,” Eason added. “Some guys contributed on offense, while others did it on defense. I expect everyone to contribute, because we’ll play 10 guys every night.”
Tonight the Pride Boys take on Desert Ridge at 5pm, in day 2 of pool play, at the Gilbert High Welcome to the Jungle Thanksgiving Tournament.
