IMG_0381Friday night was the home opener for the Pride, and they didn’t disappoint, as they defeated Valley Vista 72-54. It was a total team effort on both ends, and the home crowd left feeling good about what they saw.  “It’s a complete 180 from last year,” said Mr. Griffith, the athletic director.  That seemed to be the sentiment of all who came out to the support the team.

All but 2 of the Pride scored, and 5 players had at least 8 points.  MP was lead by Amarion Cash, who played well in all 4 quarters. “We feel Amarion has the ability to be our best player.” Coach Eason said.  “He can have games like this all the time, if he puts his mind to it.”  Khalid Price was the second leading scorer with 10 points, and John Norsworthy added 9.

IMG_0010With Jalen Graham down with an ankle injury, the Pride’s defense was in question.  However, the team performed well with out him on the defensive end, and got a strong effort in the paint, from Jonah LaBranche, Ryan Pate and Sophomores Nate Ward and DeAndre Henry.  Defense has not been where Coach Eason wants it to be, but he said it’s a work in progress.  “We need to be ready in February.” Coach Eason responded. “We’re not ignoring defense, but we’re also not grading it as hard in November and December, as we will in January and February.

Tuesday night the Pride will be at Mountain Ridge.  Tip off is 7pm, so come out and support the team.
