A lay up with 7 seconds left in the game, by sophomore DeAndre Henry, cemented the McClintock Holiday Shootout Championship lfor the Pride, with a 1 point win over Mesa, 60-59.  It was school’s first time winning the tournament, which it has been participating in for many years.  “The team grew up this week.” Coach Eason say. “We didn’t run through the teams, we had to fight; and the final against Mesa was no different.

Mesa lead most of the game, but they couldn’t put MP away.  Coach Eason said they needed to get the game into the 80s to win, because it the score was in the 60s, it would play right into Mesa’s hands.  “Teams like Mesa want to let control tempo, and they do a great job of it,” Eason added. Some clutch plays by junior Khalid Price (14 points) and senior guards Selah Thomas (9 points) and Amarion Cash (13 points) down the stretch kept the Pride within striking distance.  “They gave us the chance we needed.” Eason said.

“We made the tough plays we needed to make down the stretch.”  Eason added. “We’ve been preaching toughness all season. Winning the battle on the boards, getting 50/50 balls, and trapping hard.”  The message was well received when Graham rebounded his free throw miss with 14 seconds left, setting up the winning basket by Henry.

Next up for the Pride is on the road at Highland on Friday, January 5th at 7pm.  Come out and support the boys.
