The streak continues for the Mountain Pointe Boys Basketball team, as they knocked off a feisty Cesar Chavez team, 66-62. “We expect to see every team’s best, and tonight was no different.” Coach Eason said. “They’re young and scrappy, but we have a more experienced team; it showed when it mattered.
MP controlled the tempo, for most of the game, but Chavez hit some timely shots to stay close. At the end of the 3rd and into the 4th, the Pride lost control, getting down by as many as 6. Some big baskets by seniors Amarion Cash and Ryan Pate, and big rebounds by sophomore DeAndre Henry and junior Jalen Graham helped close it out. “You’re only as good as your seniors,” Eason added.
Much of the success for MP came through the steady play of junior point guard Khalid Price. He made some big baskets, and took care of the ball. “I challenged Lid to be a championship PG, and tonight he played like one.” Eason continued, “He’s done well with John (Norsworthy) and Terrance (Hunter) hurt; having to carry the ball handling load. Despite the extra load, he’s kept us winning.”
Tonight was the last non-conference game for the Pride, and the second half of the regular season begins next week. First up is the showdown at Desert Vista, 7pm Tuesday night. Come out and support the team.
