The Pride have been invited to the Playaz Basketball Club’s Jingle Bells Jubilee, December 26th, 27th and 29th. The tournament takes place in Paterson, NJ and hosts some of the top public schools in New Jersey. It’ll be a bit of a homecoming for Coach Eason, who is from Hackensack, NJ; a city just a few miles away from Paterson. “I moved here to avoid Jersey winters,” Coach Eason jokes. “It’ll be a good experience for our guys; that’s what it’s all about.”
Mountain Pointe won the McClintock Holiday Tournament, for the first time in school history, so Coach Eason wanted to give the team a chance to do something different. “The McClintock tournament was solid. There were a lot of state tournament teams that participated, but I like to use holiday tournaments as an opportunity to play opponents with different styles of play.” Eason explains. “You can’t get much different than New Jersey”
What’s really important to Coach Eason, is the Pride will face a different culture. They’ll get the east coast whether, old gyms, gritty styles of play, and hostile crowds; along with some stiff competition. The field will be filled with Group 4 (the largest public school classification) and a few private schools. All of that should make for a great holiday test for the boys. “The Playaz Basketball Club is the New Jersey Nike EYBL team, so they invite high schools that have players from their program” Eason says. “I like what we’re building here at Mountain Pointe, so I feel we’ll hold our own out there.”
This will be the first time the Pride has traveled to New Jersey for a basketball tournament, so it should be quite exciting to see how they do. We’ll give you more details as the tournament gets closer.
