Pride Put Away Perry

Last night the Mountain Pointe Boys Basketball team defeated Perry 70-58 at home.  It extends their win streak to 4, and raises their record to 8-1 on the season. It was a game of spurts for the Pride, but the boys led from start to finish. “We could have played a lot better,” Eason said, “but we still have a ways to go.”
IMG_0254The defense was up and down, creating some great scoring opportunities for the offense, but it had some breakdowns, which created opportunities for Perry. “It’s frustrating because we have the talent to be a great defensive team.” Says Coach Eason.  “Defense is about desire, and if guys want to be great on D, they will be, but it’s not going to happen by accident.” Coach Eason points out that on film, the bulk of the points being scored by opponents is coming on MP defensive breakdowns, not tough shots, and last night was no difference. “We had opportunities to close out defensive possessions with defensive rebounds or charges, but instead we avoided contact, and didn’t go hard to the boards.”  “Those the the situations tonight that kept Perry in the game; and those will be the difference between having a great season and a championship one.”
Offensively, the Pride shot the ball well, led by junior point guard Khalid Price’s 21 points (19 in the first half) and senior Amarion Cash’s 20.  “Lid and Cash have been voted the top players on the team by their teammates, and tonight they showed why.”  Sophomore DeAndre Henry added 13 points and 8 rebounds.
The Pride is home against Sunnyside, at 7pm. Come out and support the boys. We’ll see you there.
